Mattanbaal + Marishat van Masculula

Two women from MASCULULA

Once upon a time there lived two women in Masculula. Now the town is called Henchir el Guergour. That is close to the Algerian border in Tunisia. Both women reached the age of 41 years.
The first woman was called Mattanbaal and was married with Saturninus. Mattanbaal was the daughter of Primus. Her husband Saturninus made a tombstone for her.
The second woman was called Marishat, who was the daughter of Satur. Her tombstone was erected for her by her father Satur, who was the son of Vitalis.
It can all be read on their tombstones, that were found by R.Cagnat in 1880-1881. M.Sznycer made a splendid report on it: Deux inscriptions funéraires néopuniques de henchir Guergour in Semitica XXXIII, Paris 1983.
